Sine Nomine Associates (SNA) congratulates the OpenAFS project for establishing a legal entity, The OpenAFS Foundation, Inc., in order “to nurture and evolve the OpenAFS technology, to foster the OpenAFS community of experts, and to attract and increase the community of OpenAFS users” in the future.
“We are deeply grateful to all the contributors who made the OpenAFS Foundation possible,” said SNA CEO, Dr. Margarete Ziemer, “and offer our thanks to the OpenAFS Elders who supported and nurtured the project during over many years.” Recently, the Elders disbanded in favor of the OpenAFS Foundation’s Board of Directors.
Ziemer was a member of the Foundation’s Creation Committee, which was founded to represent the wider OpenAFS community during the set-up process of the organization. The Committee is awaiting the IRS’ determination on granting them a 501(c)3 non-profit status. Ziemer agreed to serve on the initial Board of Directors. Starting in 2000, SNA has been the first company to deliver commercially available, enterprise-level support and services for the AFS open source code to smaller sites, academic institutions, to sites with tens of thousands of users and petabytes of data stored and managed in OpenAFS.
