A Modular Email System Using Open Source Components

This session was presented by Scott Courtney at the April 22, 2005 meeting of the Midwest VM Regional Users' Group, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Scott presents several variants of a horizontally-scaled email design that can be deployed using distributed Linux, mainframe Linux, or a combination of the two, which provides inbound and outbound SMTP, virus and spam blocking, POP3 and IMAP4 delivery, webmail, and rapid semi-automated deployment of the new servers to meet increased demand.

This is a design that Sine Nomine Associates has successfully deployed at multiple customer sites, scalable to handle in excess of 40,000 users and over 25,000 inbound messages per hour after filtering.
