check_iscsi: A Nagios Plugin for OCFS2 Vignette iSCSI

James Melin, a system administrator for Hennipin County,  Minnesota, needed a plugin for Nagios, anOpen Source network and server monitor, to interrogate status of their Vignette iSCSI storage system, used for Oracle Clustered Filesystem (OCFS2), an Open Source shared filesystem. He wrote the plugin and was kind enough to release it under GNU General Public License (GPL), and to allow Sine Nomine Associates to post it in hopes that it will be helpful to others.

LXFMT 2.2 released

An updated version of LXFMT (a tool to format and prepare Linux disks from CMS) has been posted to download.sinenomine.net.

VM Workshop in Columbus, Ohio July 28-30, 2011

Come and enjoy two and a half days of technical discussions and presentations with members of the z/VM and Linux on System z community. There's nothing to join, no membership requirements, and it's only $100.00 per person plus transportation and accommodations.

Happy 10th birthday, OpenAFS

Ten years ago today, the OpenAFS project was borne by a small group of individuals at CMU--its corpus owing to the generosity of IBM, which cast forth a largely complete version of its AFS 3.6 source tree under the IBM public license.  It's certainly been a long and arduous journey; here's hoping we can keep this ship alive and smoothly sailing for another ten...

When Linux on IBM System z Makes Sense (Cents) (July 2010)

In a July 15, 2010 presentation for Hillgang, the DC Vm and Linux Users' Group, Len Diegel offered a review of current trends and challenges across the IT industry, the impact of
Cloud computing, and a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analyses that compares running Linux on commodity servers (x86) with other solutions including VMware, z/VM, and public virtual solutions.
