In a July 15, 2010 presentation for Hillgang, the DC Vm and Linux Users' Group, Len Diegel offered a review of current trends and challenges across the IT industry, the impact of
Cloud computing, and a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analyses that compares running Linux on commodity servers (x86) with other solutions including VMware, z/VM, and public virtual solutions.

In April 2008, Jim Moling offered a presentation on Cloning VM systems for Hillgang, the Washington DC area z/VM user group.

The Windows Enabler Appliance is a self-contained virtual machine appliance that provides the ability to run unmodified Intel-based 32 bit and 64 bit operating systems on System z10 hardware in a virtual machine managed by z/VM

David Boyes, CTO, and Neale Ferguson, Principal Engineer, at Sine Nomine Associates were featured speakers at recent European OpenSolaris on IBM System z conferences.

At the April 2009 meeting of the Midwest VM Regional User Group (MVMRUG) in Columbus, Ohio, Scott Courtney presented an overview of OpenSolaris for System z and a just-for-fun tutorial on building a low-energy "green" server for use in a home or remote office. The OpenSolaris presentation was originally created by David Boyes.
